Gastarbeiter Poem
On October 19 and 20, 2020, the Faculty of Croatian Studies of the University of Zagreb hosted an international scientific-professional conference "Croatian Emigrant Poem - from Reality to Romanticism". In my welcome speech, I spoke about the multiple meanings of a half-century-old guest worker (Gastarbeiter) poem and paraphrased Max Frisch: "We sent workers, people left us."
Korean Course Opened
At the Faculty of Croatian Studies, University of Zagreb, I opened the course in Korean culture and language, which enrolled 96 participants. The programme is run in collaboration with Chung-Ang University in Seoul and the King Sejong Institute Foundation. The course is run by lecturer EunGyeong Kim, the office is led by Lina Seonghyun Kwon, and I have been appointed director of the King Sejong Institute at the University of Zagreb.
Education and Culture in Europe
International conference "After the Crisis - a New Strength for Europe" was held from 17 to 19 July 2020 in the Bavarian town of Hof near the border with the Czech Republic. I participated with a talk on education and culture policy within the symposium "Educate Europe - Culture as a Starting Point for the Future".
European Memory for the European Future
On June 19, 2020, at the Faculty of Croatian Studies, University of Zagreb, a scientific conference "The Importance of European Memory for the European Future: Communist Postwar Crimes" was held. In my welcome speech, I emphasised the importance of exploring historical facts and the dangers of ideological overshadowing of truth.
